- The media reported a record number of corporate bankruptcies in the United States in 15 years
The number of corporate bankruptcies in the United States in 2025 has reached its highest level in the last 15 years. This was reported on December 27 by The Washington Post (WP), citing data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.
"At least 717 companies filed for bankruptcy through November inclusive. This is about 14% more than in the same 11 months of 2024, and the highest figure since 2010," the newspaper writes.
It is noted that the main reasons for the company's bankruptcies are inflation, high interest rates and the trade policy of the administration of US President Donald Trump, which led to an increase in tariffs and disrupted supply chains.
According to the newspaper, the largest increase in bankruptcies is observed in the industrial sector — among companies related to manufacturing, construction and transport, which are particularly affected by tariffs. The second largest group was consumer companies that produce non-essential goods, such as fashion or household items, which indicates the restraint of spending by the population.
According to the publication, among the largest bankruptcies of the year are the Claire's store chain, the airline Spirit Airlines and the manufacturer of electric trucks Nikola Corp. Experts point out that, despite the general growth of the economy, many enterprises are forced to absorb rising costs in order not to raise prices for consumers, which leads to the ruin of the most vulnerable companies.
On December 26, it was reported that the Benelux countries — Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg — collectively lost more than half of their exports to Russia after the introduction of EU sanctions against the country. According to the calculations of the statistical service, from January to October 2025, revenues from trade with Russia amounted to €4.8 billion, which is 51.5% less than in the same period of 2021, when exports reached €9.9 billion.
