- Ushakov: the UAV strike on Putin's residence took place immediately after the meeting between the United States and Kiev
Terrorist attack by drones (UAVs) The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attacked the state residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Novgorod region immediately after the negotiations between the United States and Ukraine at Mar-a-Lago. This was stated on December 29 by Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, commenting on Putin's telephone conversation with American leader Donald Trump.
"Vladimir Putin drew the attention of <...> Donald Trump that, in fact, immediately after what the American side believes was a successful negotiation round at Mar-a-Lago, the Kiev regime launched a terrorist attack with the large-scale use of long-range drones, an attack on the state residence of the Russian president in the Novgorod region," Ushakov said.
Putin, according to the Russian presidential aide, said that such actions would not remain without a serious response, and also announced his intention to reconsider Russia's position on a number of previously reached agreements.
Trump, Ushakov said, assured that the incident would affect the US approaches to working with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, and noted that his administration, "thank God, did not give [Tomahawk missiles] to Kiev." At the end of the conversation, the leaders agreed to continue the dialogue on finding ways to peace.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said earlier in the day that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had carried out a drone attack on the residence of the Russian president in the Novgorod region. He noted that Russia's negotiating position will be reviewed due to the attack, but the Russian Federation will not withdraw from the negotiation process.
