- Deputy Svintsov allowed restrictions on mobile Internet on New Year's Eve
Temporary restrictions on mobile Internet can be introduced in the regions on any night, including New Year's Eve, if information about possible drone attacks (UAVs) is received. This was announced on December 29 by Andrei Svintsov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy.
"Yes, the mobile Internet can be turned off in order to ensure the safety of our citizens, so that they can safely take to the streets, celebrate New Year's Eve or other holidays...> Such restrictions can be on New Year's Eve, or on any other night, or on any other day," the deputy said in an interview with TASS.
According to Svintsov, such measures are taken on the basis of data from the Ministry of Defense on the risks of drone strikes and fall within the competence of regional authorities. He noted that time restrictions can have a positive effect, allowing people to "take a break from endless watching of unnecessary videos."
The parliamentarian separately stressed that the main task of such decisions is to ensure the safety of citizens, and not to create inconveniences.
Earlier, on December 5, the Ministry of Finance added to the "white list" of sites accessible with limited mobile Internet, the online resources of the Central Bank of telecom operators Sberbank, T-Mobile, Er-Telecom, the Russia — Land of Opportunities platform, the federal state automated information system Youth of Russia and All-Russian student project "Your move". In addition, the website of the program "Results of the Year with Vladimir Putin" was included in the list.
