The fire occurred on a gas main pipe in the Mukachevo district of the Transcarpathian region in western Ukraine. This was announced on December 29 by the regional State Emergency Service (SES).

"To ensure fire safety and prevent the spread of flames into the forest, 21 rescuers and 7 pieces of equipment were involved," Ukrainian journalist Vitaly Glagola quoted the agency as saying in his Telegram channel.

According to him, the fire occurred on one of the sections of the Urengoy – Pomary –Uzhgorod main gas pipeline. He clarified that the fire did not happen at the compressor station itself.

The State Emergency Service reported the closure of the gas pipeline valve, which led to a decrease in the intensity of gorenje. The ministry also assured that the gas supply to the public did not need to be stopped. The causes of the fire are being determined by law enforcement agencies.

On December 10, it was reported that the Holy Intercession male Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in the village of Kostrino in the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine was engulfed in flames. Natalia Batyr, a spokeswoman for the State Emergency Service, said that the fire area is about 150 square meters, and the wooden building of the monastery contributes to the rapid spread of fire.
