Alexey Chepa, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Relations, said that the issue of Ukraine's security is one of the key issues, but Russia has little confidence in Europe.

In conversation with Lenta.Ru On Monday, December 29, the parliamentarian noted that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky a few days ago insisted that Europe and the United States act as guarantors of security, and the relevant decision had to pass through Congress. Zelensky stated that Kiev had already reached such an agreement at the interim talks, but now the demand for Europe's leading role is being put forward again.

Chepa stressed that the format of such participation has not yet been fully determined, and there are no agreements on a number of key issues. He noted that much would depend on the specific conditions, adding that trust in Europe remains low, since, in his opinion, it was she who became the source of the conflict and had not previously supported the Minsk agreements.

On December 28, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that Europe is ready to continue working with Ukraine and the United States to consolidate the results achieved, stressing that providing reliable security guarantees to Kiev remains a key priority.
