Andrei Zhezhuk, the former head of the scientific and Technical Committee of the Main Rocket and Artillery Directorate (GRAU) of the Russian Defense Ministry, was sentenced to five years in prison on corruption charges. His deputy, Colonel Sergei Zakharov, was also sentenced to 4.5 years in this case. This was reported on December 29 on the website of the Moscow Garrison Military Court.

"To find Andrei Zhezhuk and Sergei Zakharov guilty under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Taking a bribe") and impose punishment: 5 years in a high—security penal colony in relation to Zhezhuk, 4.5 years in a high—security penal colony in relation to Zakharov," the judge reports TASS.

It is noted that the court decided to confiscate 2 million 100 thousand rubles from Zhezhuk, and 1 million 50 thousand rubles from Zakharov. The amounts of confiscation correspond to the amount of bribes they received.

The GRAU Scientific and Technical Committee is engaged in planning research and analysis of rocket and artillery weapons, as well as the development of precision weapons.

Earlier in late September, Zhezhuk and Zakharov were detained by the decision of the Moscow garrison Military Court. They became defendants in the case of receiving a particularly large bribe.
