Almost 11 thousand people were injured due to flooding in the Balangan region on the Indonesian island of Kalimantan. Also, more than 3.5 thousand houses were flooded. This was reported by the Antara news agency on December 29.
"The Balangan Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that 10,949 residents were affected, and 3,511 houses were flooded in 27 villages located in seven subdistricts, making this flood one of the most severe in the area in recent years," the material says.
The newspaper notes that the district administration, the Indonesian army and the national police are involved in the aftermath of the floods. Local community residents and volunteers also help the services.
On December 13, Indonesia's National Disaster Agency (BNPB) published data on its website that the number of flood victims in the country had increased to almost 1.5 thousand people. According to the ministry, currently more than 6 thousand people have been affected by natural disasters, and another 289 are missing.
On November 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to Indonesian President Prabowo Subiant over the numerous victims and damage caused by floods in Sumatra.
