The doctor assessed the danger of Christmas trees for allergy sufferers
Allergist and immunologist Nadezhda Logina told whether Christmas trees pose a danger to allergy sufferers.
In conversation with aif.ru On Monday, December 29, she noted that live fir trees usually do not contain allergens and can cause a reaction only during the flowering period, when conifers emit pollen, such as birch.
At the same time, according to the expert, artificial Christmas trees are more likely to be potentially allergenic: if stored improperly, mold can form on them.
Logina added that the artificial spruce must be thoroughly washed and dried before use. She also stressed that if allergy symptoms appear — nasal congestion, sneezing or heavy discharge — you should consult a doctor for examination: modern methods can effectively treat all types of allergies.
On December 22, doctor Oleg Morunov said that spruce can cause allergies for several reasons: in living trees, mold on the bark and conifers, coniferous resins and pollen deposited on the branches are dangerous. Artificial fir trees are also not always safe — plastic can release chemicals, and when stored, dust and dust mites accumulate on them.
