Israel's presence in Somaliland will be regarded as a security threat. This was announced on December 29 by Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi.

"We consider any Israeli presence in the Somaliland region to be a military target for our Armed Forces," Al Masirah TV channel quoted him as saying.

He noted that such actions by Israel would be perceived as aggression against Somalia and Yemen, as well as a threat to regional security.

On December 26, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the recognition of the Republic of Somaliland as an independent state.

Israel's decision was rejected in Egypt, Turkey, Somalia, Djibouti, as well as the head of the African Union Committee, which includes about 50 countries. The Somali Foreign Ministry called Israel's statement "illegal," and also stressed that recognizing the independence of the northern region is a "deliberate encroachment on the sovereignty" of the country.

On December 27, the European External Action Service called for respect for the territorial integrity of Somalia.
