Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law clarifying the categories of long-service pension recipients. The relevant document was published on December 29 on the official Internet portal of legal information.

According to the document, seniority pensions will now also be extended to those who served in civil defense and emergency situations agencies of other states with which the Russian Federation has concluded international agreements.

It is specified that upon admission of a pensioner who falls under these categories to serve in the civil defense, emergency situations and disaster management authorities of foreign countries, the payment of the pension assigned to him for the duration of service will be suspended.

Changes are also being made to the pension provision of security forces from new regions. Retired security officers from new regions of Russia will receive benefits. In particular, persons who served in the army, police or National Guard of Ukraine from May 12 to December 31, 2014 and did not participate in illegal actions against the Russian Federation, the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and the Lugansk People's Republic (LPR) will be able to receive a pension.

The day before, Putin had signed a law providing for accounting for service in volunteer formations in the special military operation zone (SVO) when awarding a retirement pension. In accordance with the adopted law, the periods of stay of citizens in volunteer formations created on the basis of the federal law "On Defense" are included in the length of service when calculating pensions for years of service.
