Putin signed a law lowering the age of taking the oath in Russia to 14 years
On December 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law obliging citizens to take the oath of office from the age of 14. The document is published on the official Internet portal of legal information.
The relevant amendments have been made to the law "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation". It clarifies that the decision on admission to Russian citizenship will also be considered invalid if the person refused to take the oath or did not appear to take it within one year from the date of the decision.
On December 10, the State Duma adopted in the third reading a law on lowering from 18 to 14 the age required for swearing in a citizen of the Russian Federation upon obtaining citizenship. It was noted that the proposal was made in order to increase the patriotic spirit and consciously commit to comply with the Constitution of the Russian Federation and the legislation of the Russian Federation.
