Lavrov confirmed Russia's unchanged position on the Taiwan issue

Russia opposes Taiwan's independence in any form and considers the island an integral part of China. This statement was made on December 28 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"Russia's principled position on the Taiwan issue is well known, unchanged and has been repeatedly confirmed at the highest level. The Russian side recognizes Taiwan as an integral part of China and opposes the island's independence in any form," TASS quoted Lavrov as saying.

According to the minister, Russia proceeds from the fact that the Taiwan problem is an internal matter of the People's Republic of China (PRC), and Beijing has legitimate grounds to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
