Iraq is making efforts to organize a dialogue between the United States and Iran, offering Baghdad as a venue for a possible meeting of the delegations. This was stated on December 27 by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani in an interview with Al Mayadeen TV channel.

"We are continuing our attempt to establish communication at the highest level," al-Sudani is quoted as saying in the publication.

He explained that Baghdad itself had proposed a mediation role based on balanced relations with both Iran and the United States, while noting the need for guarantees and trust for a successful dialogue. According to him, earlier similar negotiations in other countries were accompanied by threats and pressure, which undermined their effectiveness.

Al-Sudani also stressed that Baghdad's foreign policy is based on a single principle and that the interests of Iraq and its people remain the country's top priority for the authorities. He noted that this approach applies equally to all international partners without exceptions and is aimed at preventing escalation and strengthening regional stability.

Earlier, on December 22, it was reported that Israel had warned the United States that Iran was preparing for a possible strike under the guise of missile exercises by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). It was clarified that the chief of the Israeli General Staff, Eyal Zamir, called the head of the US Central Command, Brad Cooper, on Saturday, December 20, and said that the Israeli side was concerned about the IRGC missile exercises.
