Paris police detained 40 people for using fireworks
Paris police have detained 40 people for launching fireworks and smoke bombs on Trocadero Square opposite the Eiffel Tower and on the Seine embankment. This was reported on December 27 by BFMTV, citing a source in the prefecture of the Metropolitan Police.
According to law enforcement officials, the detainees were identified using surveillance cameras.
"The Prefect of Police thanks the staff for their promptness and professionalism in stopping the riots," the prefectural police told BFMTV.
Earlier, on October 29, it was reported that an unknown person was able to stay overnight at the Eiffel Tower. He purchased a visitor's ticket and was spotted on surveillance cameras the next morning, but there was no damage to the landmark. The incident raised questions about security.
