The Association of German Employers in the field of heavy industry Gesamtmetall expects further major staff reductions in 2026 due to high production costs in Germany. The Tagesschau news portal writes about this on December 27.

According to Oliver Zander, executive director of Gesamtmetall, the heavy industry is losing almost 10,000 jobs every month.

"Taxes, energy costs and labor costs in Germany are so high that for many companies, production here simply does not pay off," Zander said.

He added that employment in the industry has been continuously declining for the 21st month in a row and there are no prospects for improvement in 2026.

German Minister of Economy and Energy Katerina Reiche said on November 28 that German economic structures are currently uncompetitive due to excessive regulation, high energy prices and cultural barriers. She noted that Germany has burdened its enterprises with excessive regulation, high energy prices due to erroneous energy policies and created a welfare state that puts a strain on jobs.

The National Interest (TNI) magazine reported on December 1 that the German economy is experiencing a crisis caused by sanctions against Russia, and the German industry, deprived of access to Russian energy resources, is experiencing serious difficulties in maintaining stable production.
