The media reported on the detention in Italy of an ex-senator accused in the Russian Federation

Ex-Senator Viktor Khoroshavtsev, accused in Russia, was detained in Italy. This was reported on December 26 by the newspaper Corriere della Sera.

"His pair of lawyers yesterday convinced the Milan Court of Appeal to dismiss the arrest, which took place on Christmas Eve. <...> Moreover, according to the court of the Russian Federation, which issued an international arrest warrant, he is the head of a highly organized criminal organization," the newspaper wrote.

It is noted that the Milan court decided to release Khoroshavtsev, despite the request for detention. According to the court, legal cooperation with Russia is not possible due to Russia's withdrawal from the European Council.

Earlier, former President Khoroshavtsev was put on the international wanted list on May 12. As specified to Izvestia in the Tverskoy Court of Moscow, the man is wanted in a case of fraud on an especially large scale. The court arrested him in absentia.
