The action Plan for the implementation of the Action Strategy for the Benefit of Older Citizens, approved by the Government, is aimed at providing additional support measures that should improve the lives of older people. This opinion was expressed on December 27 by Valery Ryazansky, Chairman of the Union of Pensioners of Russia (SPR), in an interview with Izvestia.

Among the important areas, he highlighted intergenerational cooperation and measures to preserve health, separately noting measures related to drug provision and the development of geriatrics.

"According to the plan, there will be many activities aimed at the development of gerontology centers and the creation of special rooms in medical institutions of various levels. I would call this part of the plan the largest, because the development of gerontological treatment methods requires the creation of qualified personnel, which we do not yet have in sufficient numbers," the source said.

He also pointed out the importance of combating the manifestation of such an age-related disease as dementia. Among the measures aimed at this, Ryazansky attributed the support of the system of additional education in disciplines in demand among older people, which will contribute to the development of memory and prevent negative trends.

A large number of tasks are related to culture, which provides for the development of amateur activities and participation in various clubs, the expert added. He cited choral singing as an example, which is an inexpensive mass activity available in almost any village or village.

"All these activities contribute to increasing life expectancy and ensuring that people do not stay alone. All worries and loneliness recede into the background, which contributes to a more comfortable life for older people," concluded the head of the Union of Pensioners of Russia.
