- The Nigerian authorities hinted at new attacks on terrorists with the assistance of the United States
The Nigerian authorities have made it clear that new attacks may be launched against terrorist cells from the Islamic State (IS, a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) with the military support of the United States. This was reported on December 26 by the Euractiv news portal, citing Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar.
"The President [of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu] has given the go-ahead for new strikes," Tuggar said.
He added that Abuja (the capital of Nigeria) and Washington are working closely on the issue of new attacks on ISIS. In addition, the Foreign minister clarified that the purpose of such cooperation is "to make it clear [to the jihadists] that this is a joint operation."
The American leader Donald Trump announced attacks on ISIS militants in Nigeria on the same day. The politician noted that the US military had carried out several precision attacks.
U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, in turn, said that the United States intends to take new actions after launching strikes against the militants of the Islamic State group.
