Axios pointed to US concerns about a renewed conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The White House fears that the Israeli authorities will resume hostilities with the Palestinian Hamas movement. This was reported on December 26 by the Axios portal, citing American officials.
"According to White House officials, [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu is delaying the peace process and fears that he will resume the war with Hamas," the article says.
According to the portal, although Netanyahu has disagreements with the administration of US President Donald Trump, he is trying to persuade the American leader to support his position.
Netanyahu said on November 22 that Israel had killed five senior Hamas members in the Gaza Strip in response to the movement's violation of the ceasefire. The Prime Minister stressed that Israel fully respects the ceasefire, while Hamas continues to violate the agreement.
Prior to that, on November 3, Trump expressed confidence that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict would eventually be resolved, but doubted that it would happen according to the two-state model. The American leader also noted that Hamas will be destroyed if necessary, and the movement itself knows this.
