Russia has strengthened its position on the African continent in 2025. The relevant information was published on December 26 on the official website of the department, summarizing the main foreign policy results of the year.

"Russia has strengthened its position on the African continent. A Russia–Confederation of Sahel States dialogue mechanism has been established at the level of foreign ministers," the ministry said in a statement.

In addition, agreements were concluded on the foundations of relations with the States of Mali and Togo, as well as a diplomatic mission in South Sudan, and friendly relations with Egypt were developed. The ministry added that the high dynamics of interstate cooperation with the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Algeria and Qatar remained.

Earlier, on December 20, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow was inviting African partners to explore niches in Russian markets, and also saw great potential in increasing trade with African countries. Lavrov also stressed that in order to expand the possibilities of cooperation between Russia and Africa in the trade and economic sphere, it is important to use the potential and mechanism of the African Union and sub-regional associations.

On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that African countries have great potential and play a significant role in global politics. He added that the Russian Federation attaches great importance to the development of equal and mutually beneficial relations with African partners.
