Launching New Year's fireworks in violation of the rules can result in a large fine or criminal liability. This was announced on December 26 by Semchenkov, Executive director of the St. Petersburg branch of the public organization Association of Lawyers of Russia.

"Pyrotechnics should be launched at the sites that are provided for this purpose. There are a lot of such places, you can find them on the local websites of the Ministry of Emergency Situations," he told the Prime agency.

The lawyer recalled that in some regions, the launch of fireworks is completely prohibited by local law. A fine of 5,000 to 15,000 rubles is provided for violation of fire safety requirements. If, as a result, someone else's property was destroyed or damaged, or harm was caused to health, the fine increases to 40-50 thousand rubles.

According to Semchenkov, the use of pyrotechnics, which caused serious harm to health or death of a person, is punishable by forced labor or imprisonment for up to five years. The expert advised launching fireworks from the windward side, securing them securely, maintaining a safe distance and disposing of used packaging.

The day before, it was reported that at least 19 Russian regions banned residents from launching fireworks and using other pyrotechnics during the New Year holidays, Izvestia found out. The ban is in effect in the DPR, LPR, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions, Crimea, Sevastopol, Kursk, Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Tver, Rostov, Volgograd, Lipetsk, Kostroma, Penza regions, Kalmykia, Krasnoyarsk Territory, North Ossetia and two cities of Chuvashia.
