Russian doctor Olga Teberkova saved the life of a passenger from North Korea, who developed anaphylactic shock during the flight. This was reported to Izvestia on December 26 by the press service of the Ministry of Health of Primorsky Krai.

It is specified that the incident occurred on board flight SU1703 from Vladivostok to Moscow. Three hours after departure, one of the passengers became ill. Olga Teberkova, who was on her way to be examined after chemotherapy, turned out to be the only medic on board.

It is specified that the patient had depression of consciousness, swelling of the tongue, a sharp drop in blood pressure and a violation of the heart rhythm. The doctor diagnosed anaphylactic shock. The situation was complicated by the altitude of the flight, the lack of communication with the ground and the language barrier.

For six hours, the doctor, with the help of the crew and passengers, provided venous access to the patient, injected adrenaline and provided oxygen support. Thanks to these actions, it was possible to stabilize the woman's condition and avoid an emergency landing. At Sheremetyevo airport, the patient was transferred to an ambulance team.

"Drug therapy was provided strictly in accordance with clinical recommendations. In the first 3 hours, hemodynamic instability was noted, and repeated administration of adrenaline was required. We managed to provide medical assistance in a timely and effective manner thanks to the full complement of the on—board first aid kit and the strict execution of my instructions by the crew members," said Teberekova.

Anton Rizaev, an otorhinolaryngologist at SM Clinic, warned on December 3 that sometimes ENT organs are damaged due to a sudden pressure drop — such injuries are called barotrauma. This most often happens during the landing of an airplane, while scuba diving (especially diving) or near an explosion.
