A resident of the Chelyabinsk region was detained for high treason. This was announced on December 26 by the Department of the Federal Security Services (UFSB) of Russia for the region.

"In the course of active operational search activities and investigative actions, it was established that the person, being an extreme supporter of the pro-Ukrainian ideology, established a cooperative relationship on a confidential basis with a representative of the special services of Ukraine in order to assist in activities directed against the security of the Russian Federation," the agency said in a statement.

According to the FSB, in 2024 he carried out money transfers in favor of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. A criminal case has been opened under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("High treason"), which provides for punishment up to life imprisonment.

In relation to the defendant, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention until February 9, 2026. Investigative actions are underway. The FSB press service recalled that the Ukrainian special services are actively recruiting perpetrators of sabotage and terrorist attacks through Internet platforms and messengers, and urged citizens to be vigilant when communicating with unfamiliar online contacts.
