Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced on Thursday, December 24, that a large ski jump had opened on Vorobyovy Gory. According to him, the facility was actually rebuilt on the site of the outdated K-72 ski jump, erected more than 70 years ago.

He noted that the project turned out to be large-scale and technically difficult: the work was carried out on a steep slope next to the existing cable car without the use of heavy machinery, and the installation of metal structures and the facade was carried out by industrial climbers. To strengthen the slope, experts have installed granite stone gabions that protect the soil from erosion and erosion, the Moscow City News Agency reports.

According to the official, the sports complex includes a referee tower and a three-story building with locker rooms, a medical center, ski storage rooms and a recreation area. The facility complies with international standards and the requirements of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation, allowing up to 130 people to train at the same time, while the springboard itself is designed for 20 athletes per shift.

Sobyanin also noted that in recent years, a modern infrastructure for sports and recreation has been created on Vorobyovy Gory all year round — from the cable car and ski slopes to the embankment and walking routes. According to him, in the coming years it is planned to open a multifunctional sports arena, a children's amusement park, a rodelban, a pavilion with an amphitheater and an information center, RIAMO notes.
