Almost half of the residents of Ukraine communicate at home in Russian
Over 45% of Ukrainians speak Russian at home. This is evidenced by the survey data on the website of the SOCIS Center for Social and Marketing Research.
The survey was conducted from December 12 to December 18 and covered about 2,000 respondents, with a statistical margin of error of about 2.6%.
The results showed that 34.7% of the respondents communicate at home in Russian and Ukrainian. About 11.3% use Russian exclusively. 53.6% of respondents choose Ukrainian as their main language of communication at home.
In addition, the survey showed that 0.5% of Ukrainians communicate in other languages, and 0.1% preferred not to answer this question.
Ukrainian MP Volodymyr Vyatrovych announced on December 3 that the Verkhovna Rada had supported a bill that excludes the Russian language from the list of those subject to protection in the country. He added that 264 deputies voted for the adoption of the law.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Zakharova, said at the same time that Russia would carefully study the final text of the document of the Ukrainian deputies, which excludes Russian from the list of languages subject to protection. She recalled that a survey by the State Service for the Quality of Education and the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language showed that 66% of students in metropolitan schools in Ukraine do not speak Ukrainian.
