The Ministry of Internal Affairs told about the scheme of scammers with the registration of a waiver of self-employed status

Fraudsters began spreading fake messages on behalf of the tax service, deceiving Russians with a statement about "violations" when refusing self-employed status. On December 25, the Department for organizing the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia warned about this.

"Fraudsters call citizens allegedly from the tax service and inform them that the refusal of self-employed status is issued "with violations." Under this pretext, they demand to arrive at the office of the Federal Tax Service, and to "confirm the recording" they ask you to name the SMS code," the agency said in a Telegram channel message.

After receiving the code, the scammers continue to act according to the standard scheme: they report "hacking of Public Services", attempt to apply for a loan, and connect "representatives of the Central Bank" and "FSB employees" to deception through video calls.

The Interior Ministry stressed that the Federal Tax Service and other government agencies never resolve issues related to the status of the self-employed by phone, do not use foreign messengers and do not request confirmation codes. You can change the status only through the My Taxes app or your personal account without intermediaries.

The ministry also recalled that errors in the refusal of the status do not require immediate action and are not accompanied by threats.

On the same day, it was reported that the attackers, disguised as investment companies, were calling the victim and offering a "secure solution" under the pretext of internal verification. It was clarified that the purpose of the first call was to create a stressful situation and prepare the victim for a call from an alleged law enforcement official, after which the conversation was transferred to a closed format: they were asked to go to a place where "no one hears."
