French journalist Laurent Vinatier (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) is waiting for the official reaction of the French Foreign Ministry to Moscow's proposal on the case. This was announced on December 25 by his lawyer Frederic Belo.

"At the moment, we are awaiting confirmation and reaction from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We will probably receive it within the next few days," he told RIA Novosti.

On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed contacts between Russia and France in the Vinatier case, as well as that he had called French journalist Jerome Garot on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, currently "the ball is on the side of France."

During the "Results of the Year" on December 19, Putin promised to look into the Vinatier case. The Head of State noted that this was the first time he had heard about the accusation against the French journalist.

In October 2024, the court found Vinatier guilty of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Evading the duties of a foreign agent in Russia") and sentenced him to three years in prison in a general regime colony. The Moscow City Court approved the verdict on October 24, 2025.

The man was detained in June 2024, at the same time the court arrested him, in the same month the Ministry of Justice included him in the register of foreign agents. French President Emmanuel Macron called for the man's release.
