A man died in a fire due to carelessness while smoking in Irkutsk.

In Irkutsk, a 74-year-old man died as a result of a fire in an apartment building caused by carelessness while smoking. This is reported by the regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.

The fire occurred on the evening of December 24 on Polyarnaya Street. After extinguishing the fire, firefighters found the body of a 74-year-old man during the pouring and dismantling of burnt structures.

According to preliminary information provided by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the cause of the fire was carelessness while smoking. The fire area was 64 square meters, 12 people and four pieces of equipment were involved in extinguishing, IrkutskMedia news agency writes.

On December 23, an elderly man died in a fire in a garage and construction cooperative in Bratsk, Irkutsk region. Rescuers found his body in the car after opening the garage.
