Fraud cases against taxi drivers and couriers have become more frequent in St. Petersburg: attackers offer them to install the coefficient radar application, which allegedly shows areas with the highest demand, and then withdraw all money from cards and issue microloans. This was reported on December 25 in the Telegram channel of the Department for Combating Cybercrimes of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.

Scammers advertise a fake app in the profile chats of taxi drivers and couriers. After registering and entering the card details for the "trial period", the user's account is emptied, and microloans are issued in his name without his knowledge.

The police gave a number of recommendations on how to avoid such schemes. It is noted that programs should be installed only from official sources — the App Store for Apple devices and Google Play for Android. Installation files cannot be downloaded via links from chats or messages.

It is extremely important to protect financial data: do not enter card details in unverified applications, but use secure payment systems such as Apple Pay, Google Pay or payment through a client bank. It is also worth carefully studying the permissions that the application requests: if the program requires access to SMS, contacts, or call history, it is better to refuse to install it.

For general protection of the device, you need to install antivirus software and regularly update the operating system and applications. New services should be discussed with colleagues, reviews, the developer's website and his reputation should be checked.

The Interior Ministry clarified that if unauthorized debits are detected, you should immediately contact the bank to block the card and report fraud. You should also save screenshots of transactions, links to suspicious applications, and correspondence to help with the investigation.

The day before, it was reported that fraudsters had come up with a new scheme to steal passport data and SNILS of Russians under the pretext of obtaining a pass to the military enlistment office to appear, allegedly for the purpose of digitizing data. According to the materials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the victim receives a call from a fraudster who introduces himself as an employee of the military enlistment office. The scammer informs the victim about the need to appear to digitize the data, after which he informs about the closed operation of the facility, which requires a summons or a pass.
