The investigative authorities detained Alibi Yayipkaev, a resident of the Stavropol Territory, on suspicion of participating in an armed rebellion in Dagestan in August 1999. This was announced on December 25 by the official representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia Svetlana Petrenko.
"The Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia continues to investigate the criminal case of the attack by members of gangs led by Shamil Basayev and Khattab in August 1999 on the Botlikhsky district of the Republic of Dagestan. Alibi Yayipkaev, a resident of the Stavropol Territory, was detained on suspicion of committing a crime in cooperation with the FSB and the Russian Interior Ministry," Petrenko said.
The suspect was charged under Part 2 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, Part 3 of Article 279 of the Criminal Code, Article 317 of the Criminal Code ("Banditry", "Armed rebellion", "Assault on the life of a serviceman"). The court chose a preventive measure for him in the form of detention.
The Investigative Committee of Russia continues to work on the identification and search for other members of gangs involved in the crimes of 1999.
