The Interior Ministry warned about a new investment fraud
Fraudsters disguised as investment companies call the victim and offer a "secure solution" under the pretext of internal verification. This was announced on December 25 by the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
"The victim receives a text or phone call from a person posing as an employee or head of a large investment company. <...> The reason is formally "official": internal audit, data leak, interaction with the regulator or law enforcement agencies," the UBK wrote in the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The department indicated that the purpose of the first call is to create a stressful situation and prepare the victim for a call from an alleged law enforcement official, after which the conversation is transferred to a closed format: they ask to go to a place where "no one hears."
"We recommend that any communication with investment companies be carried out only by phone numbers listed on official websites," the department recalled.
The UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported on the eve that a large number of fraudulent schemes operate in the field of import of foreign cars, due to which the buyer may be left without money and without a car. It was noted that experts recommend starting a transaction only with checking the seller — request the constituent documents, and check the data of individual entrepreneurs using the Federal Tax Service database.
