- The expert spoke about additional mechanisms for selecting applicants at universities.
In addition to the results of the Unified State Exam, Russian universities continue to use additional mechanisms for selecting applicants. Olga Nazaikinskaya, Professor of business practice and director of the Center for Educational Transformation at the Moscow School of Management Skolkovo, told Izvestia about this.
According to her, such opportunities are directly provided for by legislation and are already being used by a number of leading universities. Thus, MSU and St. Petersburg State University have the right to conduct their own additional admission tests. At the same time, the Unified State Exam remains a mandatory stage, but not the only criterion for enrollment.
— Applicants, of course, will have to take the Unified State Exam, but this is not the only criterion for admission, and they will have to pass additional tests that are set by the university, — said Nazaikinskaya.
Additional exams are also used in creative or sports fields, where applicants must demonstrate practical skills, as well as in specialized universities, such as MGIMO, where tests in foreign languages are provided.
There are alternative models for universities that do not have the right to conduct their own entrance exams.
