In northeast Nigeria, an explosion occurred in a mosque during evening prayers. This was reported by the Vanguard newspaper on December 24.

"An improvised explosive device (IED), allegedly planted at a mosque in the main Gamboru market in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, exploded at about 18:00 (local time) when worshippers were performing evening prayers," the message says.
