About 417,000 people signed a contract for military service, and more than 36,000 people went to the special military operation area as volunteers. This was announced on December 24 by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev during a meeting of the interdepartmental commission of the Security Council of Russia on recruiting the Armed Forces (AF) of the Russian Federation with military personnel under contract.
"Today, about 417 thousand people have signed a contract for military service. In addition, more than 36,000 citizens joined volunteer formations and went to the special military operation zone," Medvedev said. He posted the corresponding fragment of the speech on his Telegram channel.
The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council also expressed gratitude to the Russians who went to serve, noting their patriotism and contribution to achieving decent results for the Russian Army.
On December 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during the "Results of the Year" that many Russians want to sign contracts for military service, and more than 400,000 people came to military enlistment offices in 2025. Among those who wish to serve are very young people, students of various universities. They take academic leave to sign a contract and go to the front, and most often they participate in combat operations as drone operators, Putin said.
