About 25 restaurants are closing daily in France due to the deteriorating economic situation. This was announced on December 24 by the president of the Union of Hotel and Restaurant Workers, chef Thierry Marx.

"We are closing 25 restaurants a day. <...> We have the largest number of fast food restaurants in Europe, and France's gastronomy is in decline," BFM TV quoted him as saying.

He added that there has been a 20% increase in energy costs and a 15% increase in raw material prices. Thus, when ordering for €22, the restaurant owner has only 40 cents left, which is less than 2% of the net profit, Marx explained.

He noted that he was worried about the future of the industry, as the number of insolvent restaurants increased by 10% in 2025.

The Bild newspaper, citing a report by Deloitte and the Federal Association of German Industry (BDI), reported on November 27 that every fifth company had closed its production in Germany. According to the report, almost 19% of companies in Germany are no longer engaged in production in the country, which is a significant increase compared to 2023.
