VTsIOM told about the attitude of Russians to robots
Russians are not afraid that robots and artificial intelligence will take their jobs. The majority of Russian citizens are confident in their indispensability. Valery Fedorov, Director General of the VTsIOM Analytical Center and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Mass Communications at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told about this in the new issue of the Izvestia podcast.
"We believe that we are all unique and we all have such wonderful competencies that it is impossible to replace us with robots. This is the belief of the majority of Russians. We have repeatedly asked if they are afraid that robots will take their jobs. They are not afraid," he said.
Meanwhile, Russians do not admire AI and hope for robotics as much as they do in some Eastern countries, says the head of the VTsIOM Information Center.
"It's also impossible to say that we love robots terribly and want to be friends with them, we want a robot in every family. We also don't have the kind of worship that is observed in China, Japan, and South Korea," the expert said.
Fedorov also noted that residents of Western countries, on the contrary, are afraid of competition with AI and robots. They are afraid that the introduction of new technologies into production, daily life and the service sector will lead to job cuts.
"People there are more prudent and pragmatic. They worry that entire classes of professions may be inaccessible to humans, and robots will take their places. Not necessarily human-like, they can be software robots or algorithms. That is, we are not as pessimistic as in the West, but also not as enthusiastic as in the East," stated the guest of the podcast.
At the same time, the head of the VTsIOM Information Center noted that Russians have already adapted to digitalization and see real advantages in it. As an example, he cited "Public Services", a system that radically changed relations with the state.
Earlier, Roman Dushkin, head of the Artificial Intelligence educational program at the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, told Izvestia that artificial intelligence and robots can play a crucial role in space exploration, including the construction of a colony on Mars.
