In 2026, work on the recruitment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will continue, and the priority of this work will be the staffing of unmanned systems. This was announced on December 24 by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council (SB) of the Russian Federation, at the final meeting of the interdepartmental commission of the Security Council for the recruitment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the video clip was published on his channel in the messenger MAX.

"In 2026, work on the recruitment of the Armed Forces will continue. The head of state has identified its main directions, one of the priorities will be the staffing of unmanned systems," he said.

On December 10, Medvedev announced that he had held a meeting on the issues of staffing the Russian Armed Forces with military personnel under contract. During his speech, he stated that more than 34,000 people had been enrolled in volunteer units.

On December 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during the "Results of the Year" that many Russians want to sign contracts for military service, and more than 400,000 people came to military enlistment offices in 2025. Among those who wish to serve are very young people, students of various universities. They take academic leave to sign a contract and go to the front, and most often they participate in combat operations as drone operators, Putin said.
