The Transarctic transport corridor will become a key element of a new comprehensive project for the development of Russia's Arctic zone. This was stated by the assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev.

"The Transarctic corridor is a key element of a comprehensive project. It represents a single strategically significant system of national and international routes, which includes the Northern Sea Route and associated inland waterways, as well as transport infrastructure facilities," he said.

According to Patrushev, the project should be based on a target model for the development of the region, which will be developed based on the results of an audit of the current state of the settlement system, economic potential, transport framework and energy infrastructure. This approach will make it possible to form a long-term development strategy and identify the necessary government support measures.

The Transarctic Corridor, according to the head of the Russian Maritime Board, is designed to ensure the connectivity and integrated development of the Arctic, Siberia and the Far East through transportation involving several modes of transport along the coast of Russia in the waters of the Pacific, Arctic and Atlantic Oceans.

Patrushev also noted that in conditions where environmental problems are used as an instrument of external pressure, Russia needs to form effective mechanisms to protect the Arctic ecosystem, eliminate accumulated environmental damage and organize monitoring of climatic and biological conditions.

On November 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a working meeting with the Governor of the Murmansk Region, Andrey Chibis, where they discussed the integrated development of the Arctic and the Transarctic transport corridor, including the Northern Sea Route. Chibis clarified that at the moment the Arctic is considered the foundation of the country's security and transport sovereignty.

On November 18, Putin said that Russia's position in the Arctic must be consistently strengthened. According to him, the comprehensive development of northern cities and towns, the creation of new jobs and the improvement of people's quality of life directly depend on the development of the infrastructure of Arctic ports. The President also pointed out the need to realize Russia's logistical potential.
