Light in an interior is not just a functional element, but a key factor influencing a person's psychoemotional state, well-being, and even the aging process. The founder of the design bureau, interior architect Victoria Kiorsak, told Izvestia about this on December 25.

According to her, the brain receives up to 80-85% of information through vision, and improper lighting can cause chronic anxiety, while a well-thought-out lighting scenario restores a sense of security and maintains a state of resource.

The expert identified four types of light that shape the mood in the space. Garlands with a warm spectrum create the effect of a living fire, their soft flickering relieves tension and gives a feeling of celebration for no reason.

"Candles, as an archetypal light source, instantly slow down breathing, reduce cortisol levels, and help return to the here and now, especially in recreation areas. Spotlights, often demonized, structure the space and direct attention when used correctly, but they should never be the only source of light, so as not to turn the house into an office," explained the specialist.

Accent lighting highlighting paintings, niches or textiles, she says, adds depth to the interior and demonstrates the thoughtfulness of each element.

Kiorsak named multilayered lighting as the main principle, which includes at least three levels: general light for orientation, functional light for specific tasks, and atmospheric light for a comfortable life. The ideal scenario allows you to turn on the active light in the morning, maintain concentration during the day, and switch to warm, enveloping lighting in the evening. This approach simulates biodynamic lighting, corresponding to the natural change of the solar spectrum, and can be implemented even without smart systems due to the proper selection of lamps and the distribution of sources.

The architect emphasized that light is a manifestation of care, not just decoration. Well-designed lighting does not tire or overload, but creates the feeling that the house is really good. Ultimately, an interior should support a person, not drain them of their last resources, and light plays a crucial role in this.

Earlier, on November 26, somnologist Elena Kolesnichenko and Arlight experts spoke about the effect of lighting on sleep. It was clarified that bright evening light suppresses the production of melatonin and shifts the biological clock, since at this time of day the human eyes and nervous system are especially sensitive to it.
