On New Year's Eve weekends and holidays, the number of fraudulent schemes is traditionally growing: attackers actively use the increased demand for gifts, entertainment and trips. This was announced on December 24 by Sergey Tunchik, head of the Information Security sector of the Digital Economy League, to the Prime agency.

"For example, they use ticket draws for concerts of famous performers or New Year's events in major cities. To participate, you are invited to fill out a form with personal data and bank details to pay the commission in case of a win. However, no prank is being conducted — money is simply being debited from the victim's card," Tunchik said.

The expert noted that in recent months, cases of fraud around the game "Secret Santa" have become more frequent: attackers create groups on social networks and instant messengers or fake websites that collect personal data of participants.

It was clarified that fake rental ads and "exclusive" offers in group chats and messenger channels are actively used during the holidays.

When paying for services, he recommended avoiding transfers to personal accounts, not following questionable links and never reporting SMS codes, as well as checking contacts only through official websites and using antivirus software.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that on the eve of the New Year, Russians participate in the popular game "Secret Santa" on social networks and messengers. However, this action can be dangerous online, experts from the Solar AURA Monitoring Center for external digital threats warn Solar Group.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
