Foreign companies are preparing to return to Russia and will find an opportunity to do so by registering their brands in our country. Responding to a question from Izvestia on December 23, Alexander Shokhin, head of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, said this, while acknowledging that the second purpose of trademark registration is their legal protection.

"Companies that register brands have two motives. The first is that no one else uses them on the Russian market, even if they are not going to return. The second one is really the preparation for the return. All brands will find an opportunity to return, so they are registering," explained the head of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

At the same time, he noted that there is no queue of foreign companies in Russia who want to return.

"I am not sure that they are expected here, in the Russian market, as competitors in these difficult conditions. Therefore, it is still far from returning for political reasons. But this time lag should be used in order to realize all investment intentions and increase its competitiveness," Alexander Shokhin said.

According to him, the key factor of competitiveness is the opportunity to work in foreign markets.

"If you cannot export your products, then you are uncompetitive. If you need to close the domestic market in order to compete with the same Chinese companies and so on, then these are also uncompetitive products," the head of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs believes.

At the same time, in his opinion, it is important for the government to find a balance in matters of protection from unfair competition.

He also said that Russian and American businesses continue an informal dialogue, and the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs is trying to prevent companies from the United States from leaving Russia.

Earlier, on December 21, Marina Chekurova, head of the Expert RA rating agency, said that it would be difficult for Western companies to return to the Russian market, since no one would be waiting for them in a few years. According to the expert, the Russian market has become quite saturated and competitive, and if companies try to return, their products may be more expensive than similar products from Russian manufacturers.
