A fraudulent scheme involving the "return of brands" is gaining popularity in Russia by the New Year holidays. This is the Staffcop Product Director, information security expert at Kontur.Daniil Borislavsky warned the Aegis on Tuesday, December 23.

The expert noted that users receive mailings and messages on behalf of well-known networks like Zara, Bershka or H&M. At the same time, the text is designed as plausibly as possible, since the attackers use logos, corporate colors, as well as links similar to official domains. Usually, the message says that the brand is "returning to Russia" and invites you to register in order to "restore your old account", receive a "discount first" or "a gift to a regular customer."

"After clicking on the link, a form opens where you need to specify your personal information, username and password, and sometimes confirm with an SMS code. In fact, this is a classic phishing attack: the entered data goes to intruders who steal authorization data or gain access to bank accounts or "Public Services," Borislavsky said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The expert cautioned that another option is "free gift delivery." The user is offered a gift "for brand loyalty during this difficult time," and only needs to confirm the recipient's address via SMS or pay a small amount for delivery. In the latter case, several times more money is debited, and communication with the "support service" is lost.

Borislavsky recommended checking news about the return of brands only through official websites or trusted media. In addition, he urged not to follow links from emails and messengers from unknown sources, not to enter bank card and account information on third-party pages.

"To protect yourself, you should enable two-factor authentication and install corporate filters that track phishing mailings. Be sure to include a cloud password in the messenger or other additional protection tools," the IT specialist concluded.

Earlier that day, the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that fraudsters hacking accounts in messengers and social networks use them to send phishing messages, participate in gray schemes and blackmail, reports RT.

An account often becomes a tool for deception. Attackers send phishing links from it or involve it in questionable cases, the website says. kp.ru .
