30 years later, the historic tram route No. 5, which runs from the Rizhskaya metro station to the Belorussky Railway Station, was resumed in the capital, said Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.

Only modern autonomous trams "Lion Cub-Moscow" run on the updated route, which provide a high level of comfort and safety for passengers.

"A week ago, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin launched tram traffic along Trifonovskaya Street. Trams have already completed over 1.5 thousand flights and covered more than 7 thousand km. Passengers actively use the new route and appreciate the comfort of modern wagons. The route has competently complemented the city's rail network and already today shows the high demand for the restored tram line," Liksutov said.

The Lvenok-Moscow trams on route No. 5 run completely independently for a length of more than 4 km — from Obraztsova Street to Rizhskaya Square, as well as in the opposite direction. The transport runs without connecting to the contact network, using the energy of storage batteries, while the speed of the car does not change.

The resumption of route No. 5 has become a significant step in the development of urban transport in the capital, the Moscow Department of Transport emphasized. Passengers will now be able to quickly and comfortably travel between two transport hubs: from Rizhskaya metro station to Belorussky Railway Station. In addition, route 5 will provide faster access to the Russian University of Transport, MONICA Clinic and a number of other popular locations in the capital.
