- Since the beginning of 2025, 627 thousand cybercrimes have been registered in the Russian Federation.
In January–November 2025, 627,000 cybercrimes were recorded in Russia, which is 10.8% less than in the same period a year earlier. This was announced on Tuesday, December 23, by the press service of the Interior Ministry.
The main share of cybercrimes — almost 63.4% — is still theft and fraud: 397.4 thousand such cases were recorded, according to aif.ru .
At the same time, the number of crimes related to drug trafficking on the Internet has increased significantly: their number has reached 109.2 thousand, which is 28.5% more than a year ago. Currently, this category accounts for almost every sixth cybercrime (17.4%).
Messengers remain the main tool of attackers — 244.6 thousand crimes were committed through them, which is 17.5% higher than in the same period of 2024.
Earlier in the day, Sergey Novikov, head of the Presidential Office for Public Projects, said that the slowdown in foreign messengers had led to a decrease in the number of cases of cyberbullying in Russia. Novikov noted the increase in crimes involving minors in subversive activities and stressed that the development of digital sovereignty and the transition to domestic platforms would help solve the problem. Over the past year, Russian pensioners have lost 400 billion rubles due to fraudsters, writes NSN. This money was partially spent on the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reports 360.ru .
Novikov said that Roskomnadzor's measures are working, but drew attention to a new threat — the growth of crimes involving minors, who are inclined to sabotage. In his opinion, the problem can be solved through digital sovereignty and the creation of reliable domestic communication platforms.
Also on December 23, Roskomnadzor announced the possibility of completely blocking WhatsApp (owned by Meta, a company recognized as extremist in Russia) in Russia. The messenger does not comply with the requirements aimed at preventing and suppressing crimes in Russia, writes RT. The RCN recalled that the "gradual degradation" of messenger calls began in August. Restrictions are introduced in stages so that users can switch to other services. These messengers have become the main platforms for deception and extortion of money from citizens. Through them, Russians are involved in sabotage and terrorist activities, writes Moscow 24.
On December 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the situation with messengers on the direct line "Results of the Year 2025", pointing out that foreign countries did not allow their services to operate in accordance with Russian law. This was the reason for the disruptions in the work of Telegram and other applications, the head of state replied to a question from citizens about the causes of problems with the popular messenger, the website writes. kp.ru .
