Five Pakistani policemen were killed in an attack with explosives and firearms on their minibus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the Reuters news agency reported on December 23.

Local police reported that the car was first attacked by improvised explosive devices, and then fired at by unknown persons.

No terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the incident. The media clarifies that Islamist insurgents from the Tehreek-e-Taliban group (banned in the Russian Federation and recognized as a terrorist Pakistani movement) have been waging a war against the Pakistani government for almost 20 years in the mountainous border areas of Pakistan.

The attack is believed to have been carried out against the backdrop of rapidly deteriorating relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Prior to that, on October 29, at least six soldiers of the Pakistani army, including a captain, were killed, and seven terrorist attackers were killed during a special operation in the Dogar district of the local province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The eliminated militants belonged to the Fitna al-Khawarij group, which refers to members of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan movement banned in the Russian Federation.
