- Supporters of the OCU seized the temple of the canonical church in the Cherkasy region
Supporters of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) have seized a church of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in the city of Chyhyryn, Cherkasy region. This was reported on December 23 in the Telegram channel of the Union of Orthodox Journalists (UOJ).
"In the city of Chyhyryn, Cherkasy region, on December 22, 2025, around noon, a temple in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was seized," the report says.
It is clarified that no one was in the temple at the time of the seizure, and the OCU supporters cut off the locks with a grinder. According to the UOJ, the temple was re-registered in the OCU without the consent of the UOC back in February 2025. A Union source said that the Orthodox Church of Ukraine had to bring in "guest performers" to seize the temple, since there were no OCU supporters ready for this in Chyhyryn.
Earlier, on November 17, in the Ukrainian Churches of the Cherkasy region, supporters of the OCU seized the Transfiguration Cathedral of the UOC. It was clarified that the rector of the cathedral, Archpriest Oleg Markhilevich, was forced by threats to sign an act of acceptance and transfer of the temple.
