Dmitry Kachin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USSR to Vietnam, died in Moscow on December 17 at the age of 97. His death was announced on December 23 on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation is deeply saddened to announce that on December 17, 2025, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, former USSR Ambassador to Vietnam, passed away," the message says.

Dmitry Kachin was born on November 7, 1929 in the village of Bolshaya Rechka, Kabansky district, Buryat Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. In 1954, he graduated from the Moscow Technical Institute of Fishing Industry and Agriculture, and in 1961 from the Higher Party School of the Central Committee of the CPSU. He associated a significant part of his professional biography with Kamchatka, where he worked in the Kamchatrybprom system, and then held senior positions in party and Soviet authorities, including chairman of the regional executive committee and first secretary of the Kamchatka Regional Committee of the CPSU.

In 1986, Kachin was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USSR to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and headed the Soviet diplomatic mission in Hanoi until 1990. After completing the mission, he went on a well-deserved rest.

The Foreign Ministry noted that over the years of public and diplomatic service, Kachin has established himself as a talented leader and principled statesman who devoted his life to serving the country. His work has been awarded a number of high state awards.
