- Okamura: Czech Republic will stop participating in the initiative on ammunition for Ukraine
The Czech Republic will stop participating in the initiative for the supply of ammunition to Ukraine, which was previously distinguished by its effectiveness. This was announced on December 23 by the Speaker of the Czech Parliament, Tomio Okamura.
"The Ministry of Defense will cease its role in the ammunition initiative," CNN quoted Okamura as saying.
He added that the document with the relevant decision will be submitted by the Czech Ministry of Defense. Okamura stressed that Prague would no longer allocate funds from the state budget for the continuation of the Ukrainian conflict.
Further support for Ukraine should contribute to the early end of the conflict and the establishment of peace. To do this, it is necessary to achieve success in negotiations with Russia, which, according to the speaker, should be based on the initiative of US President Donald Trump.
Earlier in the day, Chairman of the SPD (Freedom and Direct Democracy) party, Czech Defense Minister Jaromir Zuna declined an invitation to visit Ukraine. According to Okamura, the Czech Ministry of Defense is preparing documents for the government to make a decision on ending the agency's role in the arms supply program for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
The Politico newspaper also pointed out that Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic have already rejected the idea of new joint loans, and in 2027, when elections will be held in France and Germany, it will be even more difficult to obtain additional financing.
