California was hit by massive floods caused by a series of heavy rains. This was reported on December 23 by ABC News channel.

"On Sunday, Mayor [Mike Littaugh] announced that heavy rains and flooding have killed one person in Redding, California," the statement said.

According to the newspaper, the policeman tried to rescue a man stuck in a flooded car, swam to the car, broke the window and pulled the victim to shore, where cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed, but he could not be saved.

According to the TV channel, flood warnings are currently in effect in the state for more than 30 million people. In the northern regions, including Sacramento, 100-150 mm of precipitation is expected.
