The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia issued a warning in connection with a public statement about a possible increase in egg prices. This was reported on the FAS website on December 22.

The forecast of the price increase was announced by the director of the Institute of National Economic Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences, who attributed it to an outbreak of avian flu at one of the poultry farms.

The FAS noted that such statements can be perceived by the market as a signal to increase prices, which creates a risk to the competitive environment.

"The agency reminds egg producers of the inadmissibility of unjustified price increases for their products and warns of the need for strict compliance with the requirements of antimonopoly legislation," the publication says.

If there are signs of a violation of the law on protection of competition, including an increase in selling prices for eggs, the FAS will take the necessary antitrust measures.
